Frequently Asked Questions
When should I schedule my Maternity/Newborn Sessions?
It is best to schedule during your second trimester. This gives us plenty of time to plan and ensures my availability. In cases where you didn't schedule early, I will ALWAYS try my best to squeeze you in :) Please remember to contact me when you actually deliver (24 hours notice is ideal). We only have a very small window of time to get those sleepy curly newborn poses. Newborn Sessions are best done in the first two weeks of life and are always scheduled on weekdays with a start time of 1030am. Maternity sessions are best done within weeks 30-34.
Where do my Newborn & Maternity Session take place?
Maternity Sessions can be done on location, in our cozy in-home studio or in your own home for a small fee. Newborn Sessions can take place in our in-home studio, on location (weather permitting) or in your home. To accommodate new parents and the hectic and exhausting settling in period a new one can bring, I will gladly come to do your session in the comfort of your own home. There is a small fee for our Petite/Micro Mini Newborn Sessions done in your home but not for our Custom Newborn Session There is no need to pack a bunch of stuff, get everyone dressed and travel when you can just relax and let me come to you.
Should I do anything in preparation for my newborn session?
Newborn Sessions are always done on a weekday morning with a start time around 1030am. If doing an in-home session, we ask that you keep your home warmer than normal (80/85 degrees is ideal) since baby will be in their birthday suit most of the time. The warmer and toastier we can have it, the happier bub will be. We will also send you our Newborn Prep Guide with more tips to help ensure a successful session. If there is a specific set-up you have seen on our page or are wanting, please let us know asap. Special orders from our vendors can take weeks to arrive.
What should I expect during the session?
This all depends on your baby. They are all different. I usually let them run the show! I like to start off poses on the beanbag, move to props and save family/sibling shots for last. If we are having trouble sleeping, I will start by swaddling and doing prop shots first. You should expect your session to last a few hours so please don't schedule anything afterwards that would have to cut our session short. Also, I expect my props and myself to be peed and pooped on please do NOT feel bad when this happens :)
Where should I print?
I suggest ordering prints directly from your PASS gallery, through us or Mpix. Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, Costco, Target are all low quality labs and your prints will reflect that. I can not guarantee any print quality not ordered through me and my professional lab.
Do you provide props or should I buy them?
We have many many options for props and bring several with me to your session. I also like to get an idea of the look you are going for and any nursery colors/themes, favorite sports teams, animals etc. beforehand also but love to include anything you may have picked up and especially any sentimental family heirloom items. Please do try to mention them to me so I can be sure to bring backdrops to coordinate. If there is something specific you want and I do not have, I encourage you to purchase it to use during your session.
